Driver Requirements

What are the driving licence requirements in Zanzibar?

A valid full driving licence is required to rent and drive a car in Zanzibar. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is accepted. If you do not have an IDP, Zola Zanzibar Car Rental can assist you with obtaining a Zanzibar driving permit.

Can I rent a car with my national driving licence?

Yes. You can use a valid national driving licence. Depending on your licence and nationality, a Zanzibar driving permit may also be required.

What is the minimum age to rent a car?

The minimum age to rent a car with Zola Zanzibar Car Rental is 21 years.

What documents do I need to collect the car?

You should have a valid passport or ID, a valid full driving licence, and your booking confirmation or voucher.

Insurance & Protection

What insurance coverage is included?

Insurance coverage is provided according to the rental terms. The available protection and applicable conditions are confirmed during the booking process or by the Zola team.

Can I add full insurance protection?

Yes. Full insurance protection can be added for USD 10 per rental day, with no excess, subject to the applicable rental terms.

Can I add protection after making a reservation?

Yes. If you have already made your reservation, contact Zola Zanzibar Car Rental and our team can assist you with adding available protection options.

My Booking

What happens after I make a booking?

After you make a booking, Zola reviews the reservation and confirms the rental details. You will receive confirmation containing the relevant pickup, vehicle and rental information.

What if I have not received my booking confirmation?

Can I change my booking?

Yes. Booking changes can be requested and are subject to vehicle availability and the applicable rental terms.

Can I cancel my booking?

Cancellation is normally possible up to 24 hours before the rental start time, subject to the applicable booking terms.

Payment & Deposit

Is a security deposit required?

A security deposit is normally not required. However, the customer remains responsible for damage or other charges according to the rental agreement.

Which payment methods are accepted?

Zola accepts cash, Visa, Mastercard and debit cards, subject to the applicable payment arrangements.

Pickup & Drop-off

Where can I pick up my rental car?

Pickup can be arranged at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ), Zanzibar Port, your hotel, or another agreed location in Zanzibar.

Is airport pickup available 24/7?

Yes. Zola provides 24/7 airport meet and greet. Our team can meet you with a sign showing your name or a Zola board.

Can I return the car to a different location?

A different drop-off location may be possible depending on the arrangement. Please contact our team in advance to confirm.

Mileage & Fuel

Is mileage unlimited?

Yes. Unlimited mileage is available according to the applicable rental terms.

How should I return the car regarding fuel?

The vehicle should normally be returned with the same fuel level as at pickup.

Additional Services

Can I add an additional driver?

Yes. An additional driver can be added for USD 15 per rental, subject to the applicable driving requirements.

Are child seats available?

Yes. Child seats are available for USD 7 per rental.

Do you provide airport and hotel transfers?

Yes. Zola provides airport, hotel, corporate and private transfer services throughout Zanzibar.
